Guarding Against Employment Fraud: Identifying Illegitimate Job Advertisements

With high demand for employment across Pakistan, fraudulent networks often exploit job aspirants by creating fake advertisements mimicking prestigious government bodies, armed forces agencies, or international airlines. Becoming familiar with common fraud indicators shields you from financial losses and personal data identity theft.

5 Red Flags of a Fraudulent Job Advertisement

  1. Demands for Direct Mobile Cash Transfers: Legitimate government institutions (FPSC, PPSC, NTS) NEVER request application fees via direct JazzCash, Easypaisa, or personal bank accounts. Fees are strictly processed via Treasury Challan 32-A, official 1-Bill PSID numbers, or designated commercial bank branches.
  2. Unofficial Free Email Addresses: Official correspondence from legitimate entities uses domain-specific emails (e.g., @ppsc.gop.pk, @fpsc.gov.pk, or @sbp.org.pk). Advertisements using @gmail.com or @yahoo.com for institutional submissions are almost always fraudulent.
  3. Guaranteed Selection in Exchange for Bribes: Any agent or consultant promising guaranteed recruitment in return for money is operating an illegal scam. Government recruitment is conducted via computerized merit rosters and auditable boards.
  4. Vague Company Details & Mobile Phone Contact Only: Authentic advertisements clearly display the hiring department’s physical secretariat address, official landline telephone exchange numbers, and legal registration identifiers.
  5. Unrealistic Compensation for No Experience: Offers promising PKR 200,000 monthly for elementary data entry or typing without verifiable qualification criteria are phishing scams aimed at gathering personal identities.

What to Do If You Encounter a Scam

Report fraudulent recruitment circles to the FIA National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NR3C) via their online complaint portal (complaint.fia.gov.pk) or helpline 1991.
